Going Out to Eat

What does one

   see

when one is weak

but a patient eye

who has faith in thee

who guarantees a word

   or two for you

like words dug from

   inside of me

like a fire trying to

burn in the rain

like wisdom for

   a niece.

Together

A husband knows it’s the

   sun

to take his wife home

so she may rest and get

   well

and he may care

for her with all his light.

Both of these poems are about my family. I call them quick images or photographic memories that I put together in a poem. Each one has special meaning to me otherwise I would not write them. I do not find them easy to write but they are rewarding when I finish them. They offerme a way to express myself. The first poem “Going Out to Eat” is about drinking and driving, a few words of wisdom for my niece. The other “Together” is about my wife becoming ill so I take her home.
