Rui Coimbra Gonçalves

Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra (Portugal)

Researcher with a degree in Classics and a master degree in Portuguese Literature, respectively in the Universities of Lisbon and Oporto, he has been developing the last years, beyond these areas, activities in fields such as Comparative Literature, Philosophy, History of the Discovery and the golden ages of Jesuitical missions, Music (mainly the Wagnerian operas), and dealing with figures like Father António Vieira, St Thomas Aquinas, Francisco Suárez, Luis de Molina, Alessandro Valignano, Paulus Orosius, Voltaire, Christopher Marlowe and Goethe, both in Portugal and abroad. He’s now starting to prepare a PhD in Latin Literature from the Renaissance period at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra, where he fulfils also the duty of researcher. Besides he published, in Macao, Portugal, Turkey, Spain and Greece, several articles and translations from the Renaissance Latin to Portuguese. Beyond presenting and discussing papers in conferences held in countries such as Brazil, Spain, USA, Russia, Turkey, England, Italy, Greece and Mexico, he developed some sporadic tasks as opera commentator, broadcasted both live and at a later time, in the RDP, the Portuguese public Radio, in its Classic Channel, Antena 2, and published in the Web.
