Stacy Pape is a Masters student in the Department of Anthropology at Brandeis University. Her concentrations include semiotic analysis and performance theory within the context of political and linguistic anthropology. Her current fieldwork examines right-wing extremist ideologies among borderland regions in France and the subaltern communities that live within them. This work highlights post-colonialist discourse within hegemonic structures that are expressed through the marginalization of diasporic and ethnic minorities, linguistic suppression, and nationalist agendas. By examining performative narratives in framework analysis, code-switching, metalinguistic and paralinguistic cues in fieldwork data, her research analyzes the indexicalities of Islamophobia under the guise of regional preservation. Her regional focuses include Alsace and Marseilles, France, Germany, Morocco and Algeria.
