Paul Powell received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1992 and his Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska in 2003. Among his many interests are semiotics and its relationship with consciousness, self-organized system dynamics, and Zen Buddhism. His most recent publication is a scholarly reflection on the implications of artificial intelligence on Buddhist thought, which will appear in the fall 2005 issue of Buddhist/Christian Studies. In 2002 he was invited to present his ideas on the relationship between the emergence of written language, consciousness, and notions of "creation" at the Toward a Science of Consciousness Convention sponsored by the University of Arizona in Tucson. He is currently working on a book of science/philosophy/fiction in the spirit of Stanislaw Lem entitled The Second Coming as an Emergent Property of Global Semiosis. Paul lives in Kearney, Nebraska with his wife Veronica and his four daughters Walker Lee, Brady, Hannah and Ellie. He teaches English at Central Community College in Grand Island, Nebraska.
