SPAMALOT IN WINNIPEG, 2010

on a day when the I Ching three times speaks

about oppression and the need to be cheerful

Monty Python’s Spamalot comes to town

singing and whistling “Always look on

the bright side of life” even when it’s shitty

and for two hours plus it’s hard not to

get the message because this triple

A touring company is surely ready

for the big show.  Their delivery is joy

through precision and timing

The Lady of the Lake, Arthur and crew

melts this already too wintery audience

and we are grateful and sunny

at intermission and later after the show

people leave whistling in the underpass

back to the parkade and no one gets irritated

at the bumper to bumper wait because time is

still rushing and lifting us above the cold

that also belongs to life.  For a respite

Monty Python has aligned our perspective

with the Tao and the Stoics
