There will come a time for truth
when the woman in pinstripes and the man
in suspenders will tell you precisely the time of day
and how near we are to the end will be announced
on billboards, T minus 100 and counting
and you will want to tell them it can't be
but you know they know better than you.  They know
because for so long they paid attention
to detail, while you were busy deconstructing the canon
and you're no longer able to recall the real.

When that time arrives I hope to be hiding in the red mountains
learning to speak with hummingbirds
and fording wild horses through the pass
