Farewell to One Who Stays Forever

We held our heads so proudly,
Strutting our mortality like the permanent update
of a permanently obsolete state of the art.
The Lagrangian, the Hamiltonian, the Superstring
like ever so many antennas of a firefly
attempting to illuminate the nearest darkness.
Then there was this memorable year 1957,
when the light fell into our hearts
through the window of science.
The theories suddenly became flesh and
revealed our essential nature: immortality.
The Unified Field was born among us.
The King of Peace told us to water the root.
Now that he has gone to his abode
from where all speech returns,
he remains with us forever.
