Problematic

by

Gillian Thomson

As we pose externally

We leave perplexed

The philanthropist ensemble.

Perhaps an unidentified

androgynous being

would resonate most loudly—

enough to curb the theoretical appetite

for a time?

Travelling along the municipal track

there are sidelines—

the Other road.

A road less travelled perhaps?

Subversion is senseless

if merely creating a diversion

from the dualistic nature of the main.

Change instead?

But change itself is a signifier of the main.

What then?

Eliminate the main,

The municipal track,

The Other road,

The words, the language,

The signs, the signifiers,

The systems?

But how to do this?

The roots of the arbitrary tree appear

to be tough and resistant to upheaval.

It seems we are caught forever in a conglomerate

of models and tropes

Elusive to most, misunderstood by all.
